Baking in Navi Mumbai

A lot of people have asked me and e-mailed me, asking about baking suppliers or baking tin vendors and other baking must-haves. So I thought I should dedicate a separate page to facilitate the readers in quick searching to get a generic idea about where to get the common and sometimes not-so-common baking ingredients.
I have been shopping for baking ingredients for many years now and, to tell you frankly, over the years it has become much easier. I must state that I m not affiliated to any of the places mentioned below in any way. Scroll down to read about the places to shop for baking supplies in Navi Mumbai and Mumbai.

Basic Baking Ingredients :

Butter : I mostly use Amul butter but you can get good quality white butter at Vinayak Dairy which is situated in Nerul and Seawoods.

Flour :  Simple old maida. Both "Madam" and "Bluebird" brands are good. For whole wheat flour, I use regular "Ashirwad" or "Taste for Life" brand's atta. You can also get strong bread flour at the Waitrose counters located at Hypercity. And the "00" Italian brand flour you can get at Nature's Basket stores.

Vanilla : You can get good quality organic vanilla beans at Fab India outlets, Nature's Basket outlets or you can get it online on

Sugar : I always use caster sugar for my bakes. I buy "Bluebird" brand which is largely available at all grocery stores. Light brown sugar, dark brown sugar, muscovado sugar and golden caster sugar are available at Hypercity's Waitrose counter. Godrej Nature's Basket also stocks it.

Yeast : You can get fresh active yeast at Arife's, which is situated at Crawford market but you have to buy it in 500 grams block. Quality Stores, Vashi also stocks it and you can get it there in little 15 grams packets. Otherwise Dry yeast is available at most grocery stores.

Buttermilk :  I use plain chhaach made at home. You can also use 500 ml packs of Amul or Mother Dairy chhach. Just make sure you are using the plain ones and not the jeera and masala ones.

Baking Chocolate :  You can find the most common baking chocolate like Morde and Selbourne at Arife's at Crawford market. In Navi Mumbai you can get it at the Heeramani Packaging, shop 1, Merchant Chamber, opposite APMC market, Vashi.

Cream : Most of the time I use Amul cream but since it contains only 20% fat, it becomes a challenge to whip it. Yes, you can whip it but make sure to chill the cream, your bowl (in which you are going to whip it) and the whisk before using. The other brands available are Tropolite, Rich's (non-dairy) and the Parsi dairy's. Tropolite and Rich's are available at Arife's at Crawford Market, Quality Stores at Sector 17, Vashi and Heeramani Packaging at APMC market, Vashi. Quality stores also has its own unbranded whipping cream.

Cheese : I make my own Mascarpone, Ricotta and Quark cheese. Philadelphia cream cheese is available at Hypercity and Quality Stores, Vashi. Nature's Basket and FoodHall at Palladium also stocks up the imported cheeses.

Corn Syrup :  "Karo" brand is available at Quality Stores, Sector 17, Vashi, or you can get it at Nature's Basket.

Rolled Fondant : Under "Dr. Oatkar's" label you can find it at Nature's Basket and also Heeramani Packaging, Vashi.

Dry fruits, spices, candied peels etc I buy from APMC Market, Vashi.

Cooking Equipments and Bakewares :

Oven : I use a Morphy Richards 35l oven which I bought from Croma Stores located in CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai.

Electric Handbeater : I use a Black & Decker electronic handbeater. This is indispensible as I use it all the time.

Bakeware : You can get all sorts of cake pans, tart pans, dessert rings, muffin tins, springform pans, bread knives, spatulas, dough cutters, whisks etc at Arife's at Crawford Market and Heeramani at Vashi. You can get good quality stuff at Home Stop or Hypercity also.

Weighing Scale :  I always use metric measures in my baking and for this I totally rely on my Kitchen weighing scale which I got from Saira Stores, Lohar Chawl, Crawford Market.

Ramekins : Again I got mine at Saira Stores, Crawford Market.

Cupcake Liners :  Arife's at Crawford market and Heeramani at Vashi.

Cake Boards and Boxes :  I get mine from Heeramani Packaging, Vashi.

Cake Decorating :  Pastry tips, cake decorating tools, pastry bags, cupcake liners and silicone cupcake liners are all available at Arife's and Heeramani Packaging, Vashi. They also have turntable, which is a must if you are going to frost your cakes and piping icing.

Blow Torch : A recent acquisition, which I got at Heeramani Packaging, Vashi. Saira Stores at Crawford Market also sells it.

Cake Slicer :  Totally worth investing if you are like me and usually slice and frost your cakes. I got mine at Heeramani Packaging, Vashi.

Thermometer :  For candy and oven thermometer, Arife's at Crawford market and Heeramani at Vashi.

Hope you will find this list helpful. Will keep updating.....
